Artists Statement for the Altar of Time

Stained glass windows and painted altarpieces are used in Churches to show religious moments and invite spiritual contemplation. Here, the scenes are replaced by the reality caused by the hubris of man. Our time as individuals and societies is short compared to the deep time seen by nature and the planet itself.  The images show areas of the ChernobylZone of Exclusion, created after the nuclear explosion in 1986 that caused radioactive fallout across Europe, including the United Kingdom. Scenes showing our impermanence created in essence by the folly of man. Many have since been destroyed during the ongoing Russian-Ukraine War.
