This beautiful art print shows the High Level Bridge which crosses the River Tyne between Newcastle and Gateshead. Illustrated in the retro Travel Poster or Railway Poster style popular in the early twentieth century, it gives a nostalgic twist to a modern contemporary artwork. It is perfect for any Geordie , lover of Newcastle or of Victorian Industrial Architecture. Ideal as gift for someone special or as a treat to yourself.
The artwork has been created by Mara Louvain Robinson, is exclusive to Alchemi Art and it is not available from any other retailers or online sites.
The High Level Bridge crosses the River Tyne between Newcastle to the north Gateshead to the south. It was built by the Hawks family and designed by Robert Stephenson with construction starting in 1847. It opened in 1849 and currently carries rail, road and pedestrian traffic. There is only one lane of road traffic which is southbound. It was built using 5,050 ons of iron and the girders form an integral part of both it’s design and aesthetic.
