This beautiful greeting card shows the famous ruin of Whitby Abbey which stands on the clifftops looking out to the North Sea.  Perfect for any lover of ancient buildings, ruins, Whitby or Yorkshire.  As an added bonus the image was also created using a variation of the historic Cyanotype process in blue, white and gold for an added touch of historical nostalgia.

Exclusive to Alchemi Art you won’t find this card in the big chain stores.

This stunning ruin stands on the clifftops overlooking the north sea.  Founded in 657 CE it flourished until the dissolution of the monasteries and has been a ruin ever since.  In 664 it was the site of the Synod of Whitby where questions of Christian tradition and the date of Easter were addressed.  The abbey also features in the 1897 novel Dracula by Bram Stoker along with Whitby itself.

This Whitby Abbey Greeting Card measures 150 x 150 mm. On the front, it features a print of an original artwork by Mara Louvain of Alchemi Art. It comes with a white envelope, packaged in a recyclable cello bag. The card is blank inside, so you can write your own message of love, friendship, or congratulations. It is the perfect way to send a special someone a reminder of your affection or to celebrate a special occasion.

The card is made of high-quality 300 gsm FSC cardstock, which means that it is made from responsibly managed forests. It has been printed here in the UK, comes with a matching white envelope and is kept safe inside a recyclable cello bag. So its environmental credentials are sure to bring a smile to the recipient’s face.

I love working with the old Victorian photographic processes. One of my favourites is the cyanotype which has a distinctive blue and white colour. If you would like to learn more about the process then check out these articles here on the website. Cyanotype Art and the Cyanotype Process. How to make a cyanotype tutorial. Inspired by Anna Atkins.
